So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do. It also won’t do in your essays.

And the same is true for scriptwriting. When writing a script, the way you describe every action is exactly like this. A man doesn’t walk, he strides or leaps or shuffles…
Best thing you can do? Buy a thesaurus.
Take this extract from the script of The Hunger Games:
THE FAMINE SHOW starts and KIDS begin KILLING THE HELL out of each other as the CAMERAMAN tries to set a world record for CONSECUTIVE SOMERSAULTS.
I think this pretty much says everything I feel about contemporary cinematographers.
For me, a thriller is exceptional when everyone is playing a good guy in the film. After the reveal in the third act (or fouth, if the scriptwriter didn’t write a resolution), rewatching the film shows that all the big bad’s actions were actually evil - but they seemed good on first viewing.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is nothing like a good thriller - using that definition, anyway.
